PDC World Championship Darts Betting

The ultimate prize for any darts player to win is the PDC World Darts Championship. It starts in December each year in the weeks before Christmas and concludes in early January. The timing gives the tournament a festive atmosphere, with the event held at London’s Alexandra Palace. Phil Taylor has won the event more than any other player, with an incredible 14 wins. The trophy on offer is now known as the Sid Waddell Trophy, having been renamed in 2013, after the death of the legendary darts commentator.

Some 96 players take part, with the top 32 from the PDC Order of Merit, entering the tournament in the second round. It’s a straight knockout, but as befits any tournament looking to crown a world champion, the matches are much longer than in regular competitions. There’s a set format, with players having to win sets based on the best of five legs. The number of sets for each match increases throughout the tournament, with the final being the best of 13.

One of the aspects that makes this tournament special is that international qualifiers take place to determine a number of entrants, while there are also spots available for women. These players are not necessarily highly ranked, but the organisers are looking make a true ‘world’ championship and grow the sport in different territories. The winner of the 2023 PDC World Championship will take home £500,000 from a total prize fund of £2.5m. World Championship Darts betting is a huge event with darts bookmakers, who have lots of specials and promotions available at the time, centred around the tournament.

Premier League Darts Betting

Premier League Darts was launched in 2005 and has become a major event. What marks it out as being different to other big tournaments is that it’s played over a few months, with a weekly league stage that starts in February and then a play-off final in May/June. Because it’s an invitational tournament, not open to all, any monies won do no go towards world rankings.
