As one of the chief supporting races on the Wednesday of Royal Ascot, the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes in 2025 has fillies and mares ready run in this Group 2 on the Round Mile. Following final declarations, a field of eight run.
Heading those is Godolphin runner Cinderella’s Dream, who has wins in Group races on both sides of the Atlantic during the last 12 months. Big spending owners Wathnan Racing run a couple here, meanwhile, in Fallen Angel and Crimson Advocate.
The former won the Irish 1000 Guineas last season, while the latter is no stranger to Royal Ascot success. In fact, there are three previous course winners entered in the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes of 2025. They include last year’s winner Running Lion, for the John & Thady Gosden stable.
One Look is the sole Irish representative in the line-up, while Start Of Day could come over from France. Elmalka seeks a first win since her 1000 Guineas triumph. Soprano won a handicap at the last Royal meeting, so tries this higher level for George Boughey and completes the runners in this field.

Carries 3lb penalty and concedes weight all-round to the field in the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes 2025 for her Newmarket Group 2 success latest. Won big races in America last summer and should be a strong stayer over this trip. Question as to whether the Round Mile might be too sharp for her, though.

Ex-American filly who won the Queen Mary as a juvenile. Campaigned as a miler since joining current stable with unlucky second around Kempton on reappearance, then prevailed in Listed company and a photo finish at Goodwood latest. Owners’ second string to Fallen Angel, but a lively outsider in the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes 2025 and still unexposed over this trip.
3. Elmalka
- Sire: Kingman
- Dam: Nahrain
- Damsire: Selkirk
- Age: 4
- Draw: Stall 1
- Jockey: Silvestre De Sousa
- Trainer: Roger Varian
- Official Rating: 111
- Form Figures: 1/31444-24
- Notable Wins: 2024 1000 Guineas
Not replicated Classic triumph from Newmarket last spring in five subsequent starts. Only fourth over course and distance in Coronation Stakes at this meeting 12 months ago. Filled same spot in Nassau Stakes during Glorious Goodwood when home in front of Doha. Difficult to say what her best trip is at the moment, but 3lb better off with Cinderella’s Dream from her reappearance second..
4. Fallen Angel
- Sire: Too Darn Hot
- Dam: Agnes Stewart
- Damsire: Lawman
- Age: 4
- Draw: Stall 8
- Jockey: James Doyle
- Trainer: Karl Burke
- Official Rating: 114
- Form Figures: 1211/8124-6
- Notable Wins: 2023 Sweet Solera Stakes, 2023 Moyglare Stud Stakes, 2024 Irish 1000 Guineas
Improved for reappearance last season when landing Irish Classic at the Curragh. Not disgraced when runner-up in the Matron Stakes or fourth in the Prix de l’Opera behind Running Lion in the autumn. Should strip fitter for return to action when sixth in the Lockinge. One of the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes 2025 runners of note. Respected.
5. One Look
- Sire: Gleneagles
- Dam: Holy Salt
- Damsire: Holy Roman Emperor
- Age: 4
- Draw: Stall 4
- Jockey: Billy Lee
- Trainer: Paddy Twomey
- Official Rating: 107
- Form Figures: 1/169212-12
- Notable Wins: 2025 Park Express Stakes
Group 3 winner in Ireland on reappearance, then made last season’s Coronation Stakes heroine Porta Fortuna work for victory in a Curragh Group 2 latest. If building on that effort, she looks a major player here. Can certainly hang in this company and versatile as regards ground. Shortlisted.
6. Running Lion
- Sire: Roaring Lion
- Dam: Bella Nouf
- Damsire: Dansili
- Age: 5
- Draw: Stall 5
- Jockey: Oisin Murphy
- Trainers: John & Thady Gosden

Last year’s winner, but an in and out performer. Clearly most capable on her day like when landing this 12 months ago or runner-up in the Prix de l’Opera in the autumn. Trailed in last behind Cinderella’s Dream in the Dahlia Stakes on reappearance, but better effort when second over further at Haydock latest. Cheekpieces on for first time.
7. Soprano
- Sire: Starspangledbanner
- Dam: Lealas Daughter
- Damsire: Excelebration
- Age: 4
- Draw: Stall 7
- Jockey: Billy Loughnane
- Trainer: George Boughey
- Official Rating: 111
- Form Figures: 133237/531341320-1
- Notable Wins: 2024 Sandringham Stakes, 2025 Snowdrop Fillies’ Stakes
Won a Straight Mile handicap here 12 months ago and then a Group 3 in France last summer. Behind Fallen Angel when third in the Matron Stakes in Ireland and second to a subsequent winner across the Atlantic. Just beat Crimson Advocate by a nose on reappearance latest. One of the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes 2025 runners with each-way claims.
8. Start Of Day
- Sire: Night Of Thunder
- Dam: Pacifica Highway
- Damsire: Pulpit
- Age: 4
- Draw: Stall 2
- Jockey: Aurelien Lemaitre
- Trainer: Christopher Head
- Official Rating: 106
- Form Figures: 11125-5
- Notable Wins: None
Listed winner in the French provinces last summer. Second to Ombudsman at Group 3 level and not disgraced when fifth in the Prix de l’Opera behind Running Lion and Fallen Angel. Needs a big step forward from her reappearance here, however.
Duke Of Cambridge Stakes 2025 Shortlist & Verdict
It’s a competitive heat but, if Porta Fortuna is the form marker for these fillies and mares, Irish raider ONE LOOK gave her a scare last time. Wathnan Racing duo Fallen Angel and Crimson Advocate both have claims with concerns about dropping Cinderella’s Dream back in trip.
One Look looks the value, however, for a trainer who doesn’t tilt at windmills with his fillies. Running Lion doesn’t run two races the same, so it’s hard to get a handle on last year’s heroine. With Elmalka yet to reproduce her best form, Soprano could go well at the Royal meeting again.
