Following the disappointing sales of its predecessor, the Wii U, the Switch came as the new hope for Nintendo in the ongoing battle with other console giants, PlayStation and Xbox. Acting as both a portable and home console system, it soon started to grow in popularity in the gaming community.<\/p>\n

According to Statista and VGChartz data, Nintendo sold 17.5 million Switch consoles in 2019 and hit 49.8 million units in lifetime sales. However, 2020 witnessed an influx of new fans as the entire gaming industry exploded amid the Covid-19 lockdowns. Despite production and shipment delays caused by the pandemic, Nintendo shipped over 27 million Switch consoles worldwide, with its lifetime sales rising to 77 million units that year.<\/p>\n
